Symptom - Fatigue

Fatigue is a feeling of excessive tiredness or lethargy, with a desire to rest, perhaps to sleep. Fatigue means lacking energy or strength and is a very common symptom. However, the term in common usage may mean many things, including drowsiness (sleepiness), lethargy, tiredness, malaise, listlessness, or weakness (including muscular weakness). Sometimes it is hard to know exactly whether you are tired, weak, fatigued, or have other symptoms. Nevertheless, any type of fatigue can indicate a serious medical condition and needs prompt medical investigation.

We believe that people with OPCA are more fatigued than others because they have to concentrate on daily living activities a lot more. For example, reading a book, walking, cooking, watching television, typing, etc. etc. Everything people with OPCA do takes more concentration. We believe this leads to heightened fatigue.

Patients with OPCA may also have sleep disorders or trouble sleeping due to other symptoms. Therefore, they would be more tired during the day from not getting a restful night's sleep.
